Little Helper!

This is my grandson Jacob, and he was quite a bit of help last spring helping cleaning up all the debris around the cabin! You would not believe how much "crap" can accumulate on the ground when your surrounded by a forest!! But the kids just love their cabin "retreat", and spring cleaning is just a part of the joy!! I did some distressing on the papers, made my letters, (which I did a tutorial below on to show everyone how to make them!!) I also did some cut work, and stamped and cut out some butterflies too!! thanks so much for stoppin' by my place!! I appreciate the visit!! Teresa

Tutorial for my "Handmade Letters!"

This will hopefully help everyone to be able to make my favorite letters!! I have had so many requests for the technique, I decided it was easier just to post it here so everyone could see it! This first picture is of the Basic Grey letters that I have been using as my template!! You can get these 12x12 sheets of alphabets just about anywhere, most scrap stores carry some brand of this type, you decide how big you want!!
First picture is the template I use to trace my letters! They are Basic Grey, that come on a 12x12 piece of cardstock. Most scrap stores carry some similiar to these if you cannot find these exact letters!
Second picture is the letters traced onto the matching paper I chose for my lo. I then cut them out, then "rough" them up with my exacto knife shown in picture. Roughing them up, is merely "scraping" the edges of letters with your knife! The more you scrape, the "fluffier" they will look! the letter to left of pic has been scraped, the right has not! (It is very tidious work holding those tiny little letters, while you scrape away at them......but well worth the effort I think!!)
The third picture is the "roughed" up letters glued onto a second piece of paper! It too, will match the lo I am working on! I always use Aleene's Tacky Glue for this project. I then cut the letters out, leaving about 1/8 inch of paper all around the letter, then again, "rough" up the edges of this paper too! Remember, the more you "scrape" the fluffier, they become!! (You can click on a picture,it will become larger so you can have a better look at the image!)
Fourth picture is a "third" paper that I chose to add to these particular letters! You may be happy with just the two layers, sometimes that's all I do, but these needed a dark background to stand out againest the lo I am making.
So I have added a dark brown cardstock to them, and again, repeated the "scraping" on the edges of letters after cutting them out!! The amount of layers you do is entirely up to you, I always make that decision as the lo takes shape!
The last picture is of the finished letter with three layers to it!! Just remember, the more you scrape, the fluffier they look!! The fun of these handmade letters, is the fact that they match "your" lo, and YOU made them!! So have fun, and if you have any question, PLEASE feel free to ask me!! I hope I have made this easy for you to understand! And.............for those who asked about the hearts.....the very last picture is my Prima Stamp!! I stamp that heart onto matching paper for lo, then use my gel pen, or watercolor pensils to color the flowers, cut it out, then glue onto coordinating cardstock, then cut out with my scalloped scissors!! The trouble is finding that stamp!! I need a new one, almost have that one wore out, and cannot find them!! Hope you were able to understand directions.....if you have questions, please feel free to ask!! Teresa

Cousin

This is a pic of my son and my sister's son takin' many years ago!! They are in their 30's now................holly cow, where did the time go?? I tried to do the essence of two boys at play with this lo. I did cardboard background, painted white and green, then distressed papers pretty heavy. I made those little tubes of papers, then took the jute that I had ran around perimeter of lo, and strung it through the tubes! I also used my new stamp for the leaves around pic! I cut some bicycles out of paper, and a rocket! The leaves represent the boys playing in the woods, they ride bikes, they climb trees and make swings with rope, and I also tore the center's out of papers and tucked in pic! This reminds me of two boys at play!! Thanks for stoppin' by and takin' a peek!!! Teresa

Celebrate Family

Found this old "wrinkled" picture of myself and my niece! I'm the one behind her, giving the hug! I used Webster's Pages on this one! I did my scalloped edge background, and I cut a circle in the main paper, curled it down and added a hindge to hold it. I also added some pages out of an old book for the background to circle!I added lace and a Cherry Blossom branch from Prima, and mixed that in with the paper cherry blossoms!! Was a fun lo to do!! Those Webster's Pages really lend themselves to a vintage style lo! Thanks so much for stoppin' by!! Teresa

Wall hanging, with quote!

I was sent an e-mail this morning from a friend warning of another new scam, and be aware! At the bottom was this quote, and I had to make this hanger to hang in my scrap area with the quote, cuz it tickled me so!! Didn't take to long to make, but now my husband wants one for his work, only a more male gender type! Quote says...." "I want to live my life in such a way that when I wake in the morning and my feet hit the floor, Satan shudders and says, "Shit, she's awake!"
Thanks so much for stoppin' by, and hope you got a kick out of this too!!

Wow.......this is the first lo I've been able to do in about 3 weeks!! Was fun too!! I found these old pics of myself, and decided to do a vintage with them/!! I added some tea dyed lace to help round out the lo!! Thanks so much for stoppin' by!!

Spring 2009

Been working the last week or so to get my flowers weeded!!! I let the garden go just a little too long, so it's been a bit of a nightmare getting caught up!! I did a little something different with the Webster's Pages.......sort of a new, meets Vintage attempt! I distressed the Webster's, then I used some pages from an old book I have, chalked them, distressed them and layered them around lo! I added some cut work, a little fairy, and a broom for some whimsy!! Thanks so much for stoppin' by!

Nature....the great outdoors!

I love this picture of my grandson at our favorite lake last summer! Love the shadow effect on him, with lake in the background!! I really wanted a vintage feel to this, so I tea dyed the lace and just glued it down how it laid there! Then I really layered the papers and distressed them quite heavy. I also took some ribbon and jute and laced it through the scalloped edge of background paper. I wasn't happy with how clean the upper right corner of music paper looked, so I poured some of my tea into a saucer, then set my teacup in it, then set it on the lo........looks like the lo's been around forever now!! Pretty easy fix!! Thanks so much for stoppin' by!!

For the life of me, can't figure out why, but it most certainly has been on my mind alot lately!! I feel great.......guess I'm just getting a little fickle!! My daughter bought me a bunch of Webster's Pages for Mother's Day, so used them on this lo!! What fun papers! Love at first sight...."2010 Camaro"

I have always been a real car buff, and over the years have had many hot rods!!! Think I've owned four camaro's over the years, a SS Chevelle,an SS Nova(actually two), a Chrysler 300, so when I saw the movie Transformers, and Bumblebee the Camaro.....I've been waiting for them to appear ever since!! Well they hit the dealers here last month (the 18th), and this week-end I went to visit the kids, and drug them to the Chevy dealer to see one!! I prefer black, but they did have this red one, and wow.....what a car! It is just way too cool!! I was given instructions when I left home, NOT to bring one home.......which I didn't (only because it wasn't black, he-he). So I took a bunch of pics, and this is one of them...isn't it just soooooooooo cool??? Thanks for stoppin' by!!
